16th November 22:00 Merlin Theatre ('70)
TÁP Theatre
Fisherman's Friends

TÁP Theatre has been operating since 2004, performing at various alternative receiving houses and clubs declaring war on the stiff forms of traditional theatre. Their performances recall the world of the 1900's music hall. The show featuring 25-30 well-known and less well-known artists keeps playing to full houses, reviving this undeservedly forgotten genre, in which high art and alternative culture appear side by side.

"They're not mocking others. They make a fool of themselves (...). They assume full responsibility for the awkwardness of their affected seriousness and self-importance. They show us how much courage it takes to make bad theatre. What depths do the lack of talent and incompetence arise from. They fool around on a philosophical basis. They're disrespectful by principle. They're decent, well-prepared anarchists."

Péter Molnár Gál, theatre critic

Universitas, Kassák House Studio, Apartment Theatre, Squat Theatre, Love Theatre, Newspaper Theatre. These are the most significant formations, which are connected to Péter Halász's (1944-2006) name in Budapest, France and New York as well. In Hungary He was the pioneer of avantgarde theatre, the initiator of various different experiments in forms of expression (happening, performance based on verbal-theatre improvisation).

In the light of this career the performance created "in memory of Péter Halász" by the TÁP Theatre and Katona József Theatre is bound to be a little different. It is the audience who constructs the performance of Fisherman's Friends, an unconventional evening of theatre made up of writings by, radio and television interviews with Péter Halász, and extracts from performances and films.

You're free to assemble your very own Péter Halász mosaic from a mass of several, simultaneously running performances, images and sounds, taking your pick from memories and dreams. You can select, interrupt or start everything over again.

"The apparent chaos, the ambience of touching on all imaginable genres conceal strict composition. The careful observation of the symmetrical visual organisation, together with the sound accompaniment we choose to listen to in our headphones, convincingly outline the seemingly scattered and inconsistent performance, happening, one-man show, opera, improvisation."
