Gerzson Péter Kovács is one of the emblematic figures of the Hungarian dance scene with a background in both contemporary and folk dance. In 1997 he created TranzDanz, a company that renews itself with each production and invites different, professional dancers from the classical ballet, contemporary and folk dance scene for each project. For Banquet he has united talented young dancers to question and criticize the mediocrity experienced in our everyday lives.

Banquet is a Central European Gesamstkunstwerk, a soap-opera, an everyday-fairytale with the exaggerated archetypes of our contemporary culture, where people are partners and schemers, allies and enemies, lovers and cheats at the same time. The protagonists of the play gather for a peculiar banquet. But what is it they’re celebrating? What and who are they bidding farewell to? What happens if history catches up with stage fiction?

Gerzson’s approach in dance has always been highly critical and intellectual, seasoned with an unmistakable sense of humour and self-reflection.

“Banquet is a virtuoso, sour and cruel production that is elevated and reaches into the depths at the same time (...) making fun of us for our own entertainment in brilliant fragments.”
